Awwal 17, 1432, Feb 20, 2011, SPA -- Algerian Minister of Culture Khalida Toumi graced here today the launch of the international activities of the Forum on the history of the Algerian city of Tlemcen, which was chosen as the capital of the Islamic culture for the year 2011. More than 250 university professors, historians and experts in the field of international relations of Algeria, and many Arab, Islamic and European countries including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Palestine, Kuwait, Jordan, Malaysia, Germany, France and Spain will participate in the Forum's parleys. The Forum will touch on a number of the most important themes: Tlemcen in ancient times; Tlemcen in the era of the Islamic conquests, Tlemcen in the Ottoman era and the role of this historic city to resist the French colonization of the Crusaders. The Forum will address the status of capital of Tlemcen in Islamic Maghreb, Arab, Islamic and foreign writings.
