Awwal 13, 1432 H/Feb 16, 2011, SPA -- Thai government confirmed its intention to lift the state of emergency in the south of its country in order to enable the Muslim minority there to exercise their civil rights freely. This announced by a delegation representing the Thai government during a meeting held today at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) here. During the meeting, the Thai delegation was headed by Sura Pong Nih, Advisor to Foreign Minister and OIC was represented by Ambassador Sayed Qassem El-Masry, Advisor to the OIC Secretary General for Minorities Affairs. The Thai delegation asserted also that its government is responding to the demands brought by the OIC in previous meetings in order to enable the Muslims of Thailand to exercise their rights according to the privacy of their religion and culture and in consistency with the efforts of the OIC General Secretariat in this regard.
