A labor department inspector in the western county of Hunedoara has told Agerpres news agency the five were servicing an electric transformer when the explosion occurred Saturday. The condition of the five is not known, according to AP. Rescue teams were headed to the mine in the Jiu Valley mining region, about 350 kilometers (220 miles) west of Bucharest. About 800 miners are employed at the mine, which is due to be shut down by 2018.
