Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp said Thursday its net profit for the October-December quarter declined 8.6 per cent to 72.3 billion yen (886 million dollars) year-on-year due to the yen's appreciation against other currencies, as dpa reported. Sony, maker of the PlayStation gaming console, said its operating profit for the quarter slid to 137.5 billion yen from 146.1 billion yen a year earlier while sales revenue was down 1.4 per cent to 2.21 trillion yen. Sony revised down its full-year sales outlook to 7.2 trillion yen from the 7.4 trillion yen it had projected in October. But the company maintained net profit and operating profit estimates at 200 billion yen. Shares in Sony rose 0.74 per cent Thursday.
