Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Region and Chairman of King Faisal International Prize (KFIP) Commission, today expressed thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the pioneer of science, culture and innovation, the Deputy Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who annually graces the prize as Chairman of the prize's Selection Committee on the branch of Service of Islam, and Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, the Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, for their unlimited support for the prize since its inception. In a key address during the prize's winners announcing ceremony in Riyadh tonight, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal also extended thanks to the selection committees for their strenuous efforts and the prize's secretariat general. Then Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Othaimeen, the Secretary General of KFIP, announced the winners of this year's prize as follows: Winner of KFIP in the branch of the Service of Islam is H.E. Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia (from Malaysia); Co-Winner of KFIP in the Islamic Studies branch is Professor Halil Ibrahim Inalcik (from Turkey); Co-Winner of KFIP in the Islamic Studies branch is Professor Muhammad Adnan Bakhit Al-Sheyyab (from Jordan) for their work in the topic of "Socioeconomic Aspects in the Islamic World through 10th - 13th Higri Century - 16th - 19th Gregorian Century; Co-Winner of KFIP in the branch of Medicine is Professor James Alexander Thomson (from USA) ; Co-Winner of KFIP in the branch of Medicine is Professor Shinya Yamanaka (from Japan) in their work in the prize's topic "Stem Cell Therapy"; Co-Winner of KFIP in the branch of Science is Professor George McCleliand Whitesides (from USA); Co-Winner of KFIP in the branch of Science is Professor Richard Neil Zare (from USA) for their work in the prize's topic of Chemistry. The prize for Arabic Language and Literature on the topic of "Renovation Trends in Arabic Poetry up to the end of the 7th Higri Century" was withheld for candidates' works disqualification, the Secretariat General announced.
