A Bombardier CRJ200 jet overran the runway after landing at the airport of Kazan, the capital of Russia's constituent region of Tatarstan, Tuesday morning, the airport's spokeswoman Regina Yunusova told Itar-Tass. "Tuesday morning, a CRJ200 performing a flight from Bugulma to St Petersburg via Kazan, overran the airport's runway by fifteen meters," she said. "The jet had 35 passengers and three crewmembers aboard. All of them are safe and sound." At the time of reporting, a special commission was investigating the causes of the accident but preliminary information from the Russian federal air navigation service /Rosnavigatsiya/ said the problem might have been caused by a faulty operation of the undercarriage. The accident caused a temporary closure of the airport. The aviation authorities delayed the departure of three flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Mineralnye Vody, as well as the arrival of two flights from Moscow and Izhevsk. Airport officials gave the assurances, however, that the closure would not last long.
