A major disaster was averted at the Islamabad International Airport due to the vigilant approach of the pilot of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-791, departing for Birmingham Thursday, officials said. A PIA leased aircraft (A-310 Airbus) carrying over 180 passengers and 10 crewmembers while on its taxiway, developed technical fault, causing fire in one of its engine. Sensing the situation the pilot applied emergency brakes, which immediately flattened all the eight tyres of the aircraft, resultantly causing minor bruises to the on-board passengers. However, the plane came to a halt thus blocking the runway, officials said.
