Part of the main terminal at Dulles International Airport outside of Washington was closed on Thursday while police investigated a suspicious item, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said. Airport officials said part of the main terminal's ticket area and baggage claim area was closed, but that flights continued to operate. Police investigated the suspicious item after two packages erupted in smoke and flames in the mailrooms of two Maryland state government buildings earlier Thursday, but no one was seriously injured, officials said.
