At least 16 people, including nine children, have died in a pair of traffic accidents in China, one of which involved a pileup of more than 100 cars. The official Xinhua News Agency says the nine children died when the vehicle taking them to school Monday plunged into a creek in the central province of Hunan. Ten other people were injured and one was missing. The report does not say what caused the accident. In a separate accident Monday in neighboring Guizhou province, Xinhua says seven people died and 15 were injured after a truck crashed into a gas station in foggy conditions, causing a pileup involving more than 100 cars.
