Four Turkish engineers and their driver were kidnapped on Sunday in south-eastern Afghanistan, an official said. Unknown gunmen abducted the engineers in Patan, a district in the province of Paktia, which borders Pakistan, as dpa reported. "Four Turkish engineers working with a border police unit were kidnapped along with their Afghan driver and have been taken away to an unknown location," Rohullah Samoon, spokesman for the provincial governor, said. An investigation was underway, he added. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. Foreign workers have been increasingly targeted by both criminal groups and insurgents in the war-torn country.
