The UN Security Council welcomed formation of a new representative national partnership government in Iraq as approved by the Parliament and urged the Iraqi leaders to pursue national reconciliation. "This decision reflects the will of the Iraqi people as displayed by the parliamentary election of March 7, 2010. We encourage its leaders to continue to pursue a federal, democratic, pluralistic and unified Iraq based on the rule of law and respect for human rights," Council President Susan Rice said in a statement to the press, late on Tuesday. The council welcomed the inclusive political process and representative outcome, and encouraged Iraq's leaders to "rededicate themselves to the pursuit of national reconciliation," the statement was quoted as saying by KUNA. Reaffirming its commitment to the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Iraq, the Council emphasized the importance of the stability and security of the country for its people, the region, and the international community.
