The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group and Uzbekistan government signed recently financing agreements for two priority projects worth $180 Million. Dr. Rami Mahmoud Saeed, Director, Country Department of the IDB group, who visited Tashkent recently, co-signed with the government of Uzbekistan, the financial agreements. The IDB group will extend a record amount of $167.2 Million for the Reconstruction and upgrading of M-39 Road in Surkhandarya region, biggest operation of IDB Group in Uzbekistan since its joining to the Bank in 2003. In order to assist the Government of Uzbekistan in improving the existing education infrastructure in rural areas, the IDB group will provide financing of $11.7 Million for construction and equipping of 13 secondary schools, and training 300 teachers in rural areas where about 3,000 secondary school students will be enrolled. Uzbekistan joined IDB in September 2003 and its country-portfolio of operations comprises 22 operations totaling an amount of $459 Million.
