Dhabi, 01 Muharram, 1432 / 07 December 2010, SPA -- Abu-Dhabi Declaration which was issued by the 31st summit of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) recommended that serious and speedy steps should be taken and endorsed by the GCC Supreme Council towards a long-term comprehensive Gulf water strategy. The Declaration underscored the importance of linking water security and energy sources on one hand with food security diversification on the other in its capacity as a vital necessity and strategic priority for the future of the Gulf countries. The statement noted that the Gulf region has witnessed a vast developmental renaissance in all sectors and fields despite serious challenges. Among these challenges is to continue developing our human resources and exploiting our natural wealth in a sustainable manner to enable us stand in one row with the advanced countries of today's world. So far, we have made great strides in almost all fields of development, starting from the material infrastructure to the human resources development, exploiting the natural resources of our countries. However, a key factor of life and development, that's water, witnesses scarcity in our region, pressuring us to find out possible ways to obtain and rationalize the use of water given the fact that we produce about half of the world's desalinated water to meet our peoples needs of this essential item of life, the statement added. --More
