Qaeda 1431 H. / 28 October 2010, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah said the convening of the 5th Ministerial-level Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum today derives its additional importance from the current world food shortage crisis. Addressing the meeting, he called for strenuous efforts by the Islamic countries to find solutions to the food shortage at the regional and international levels, saying that Sudan, known as the Arab world food basket, is eligible to fill this gap. He gave an account on the efforts exerted by the GCC member states in support of international efforts to solve the food crisis, citing their support for regional and international organizations and other hand-stretched offers towards sister countries on bilateral levels as well as their support for studies and research that provide some kind of guarantee for food security and environment safety for citizens and the principle of sustainable development and tackling the aspects of food shortage.
