Qa'dah 19, 1431 H/Oct 27, 2010, SPA -- At least 40 people were killed Wednesday when a roof collapsed on a wedding party in the northern Afghan province of Baghlan, a senior police official said. "A large number of women and children had gathered in a two-storey building for a wedding party in the Jelga district," dpa quoted Abdul Rahman Rahimi, the provincial police chief as saying. "More than 40 people, most of them women and children, were killed after the roof of the building fell down," he said. But Fazelludin Muradi, a member of Baghlan's provincial council from Jelga district put the death toll much higher, at 60. He said another 40 people were injured in the incident. Authorities blamed the house's poor infrastructure and the presence of a large number of people for the collapse. At least 10 more people were injured, Rahimi said. Police rescue teams were dispatched to the remote district.
