Qaeda 1431 H. / 21 October 2010, SPA -- A fire, caused by a sudden electric spark at a power transmutation station in Jeddah today, led to power disconnection in some of this Red Sea city neighborhoods, the Saudi Electricity Company explained. In a statement, SEC said "As a result of electric deficiency at the far ends of cables at the 110-vol transmutation station in Al-Girayat District of Jeddah which took place at 6:25 on Thursday morning, an electric spark led to the flare up of a fire at the transmutation station". The fire caused a shutdown of power current in some districts neighboring the station, SEC said, noting that the size of power load loss was estimated at 155 megawatt. The company's technicians immediately provided the alternative feeders that were able to restore the current by 90 percent to affected subscribers. Work to provide the service for the rest of dark places is underway, the statement concluded.
