Qa'da 11, 1431, Oct 19, 2010, SPA -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday said that the future of the United States depends on educating students in science and math. The president said achievements in those fields should get as much recognition as sports championships, although they often do not. In comments to an audience of school-aged Science Fair winners being hosted Monday at the White House, Obama said that the United States is being outpaced by other countries, and he wants American students to move from the middle to the top in science and math over the next ten years. The students were hosted in an effort for the president to celebrate the winners of a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions, the White House said. "The President will view exhibits of these students' work, ranging from breakthrough basic research to new inventions, followed by remarks to an audience of students, science educators and business leaders on the importance of STEM education to our country's economic future," the White House Press Office said in a statement. Obama viewed student science projects set up in the State Dining Room of the White House.
