U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced a $250 million public-private partnership expanding a program to improve U.S. math and science education. The fund, which nearly doubles a $260 million initiative announced in November, involves universities, large corporations, foundations, non-profits and government agencies. It is intended to attract, develop and reward outstanding teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. "Whether it"s improving our health or harnessing clean energy, protecting our security or succeeding in the global economy, our future depends on reaffirming America"s role as the world"s engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation. And that leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today, especially in math, science, technology, and engineering," Obama said in his address that took place in the White House East Room.
