Qa'dah 3, 1431/Oct 11, 2010, SPA-- Luxury German carmaker Daimler, which makes the Mercedes Benz range, said Monday that it was recalling at least 85,000 vehicles in the United States, Europe and Asia over a suspected fault with the power steering system. A spokesman for the Stuttgart-based firm told the German Press Agency dpa that alongside 85,000 C and E-Class vehicles in the US, an unconfirmed number of C-Class, E-Class and GLK vehicles were being recalled in Europe and Asia. Information posted on the website of the US auto-safety agency, NHTSA, Monday said that 2010 C-Class model 204, E-Class model 212, and 2010-2011 E-Class coupe/cabriolet model 207 vehicles were being recalled. Drivers may lose full power steering in certain circumstances, increasing the risk of an accident, the agency said. The recall will involve some 85,000 vehicles. In Germany, owners of affected cars have been informed, although the spokesman did not give details of how many vehicles are involved, or exact locations of the recall. The fault is thought to affect cars that rolled off the production lines between May 25, 2009 and February 17, 2010. This month, Daimler's main competitor in the luxury segment, BMW, had to recall almost 200,000 vehicles in the US over problems with the braking system.
