Saudi Ambassador to the Netherlands Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Shaghroud, who is also Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, highlighted yesterday the measures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention. His remarks came while leading the Kingdom's delegation to the 62nd Session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons which was concluded yesterday in the Hague, the Netherlands. "The most important measure was the establishment of the National Authority for the Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, whose area of jurisdiction was recently expanded to include the Biological Weapons Convention", Ambassador Al-Shaghroud said. "Emanating from its firm policy that aims to disarm all weapons of mass destruction and to enhance international peace and security, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to the commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention", Ambassador Al-Shaghroud added. He also called on countries possessing chemical weapons to intensify their efforts to destroy their stockpiles of such weapons.
