Khober, Saudi Arabia, 26 Shawal 1431 H. / 5 October 2010, SPA -- On behalf of Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, Prince Juluwe bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Region, opened in this Eastern Region's city of Al-Khober this evening the First International Conference on Psychiatry, organized by the Saudi Association for Psychiatry at the University of Dammam under the title "Psychiatric Health: a Social Perspective". Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mahdi al-Madini, Chairman of the association said the association was established five years ago and that his organization's members amounted to 150 active members and more than 600 associate members. More than 500 female and male participants from Saudi Arabia, GCC member countries, Arab World, U.S., Holland, Sweden and Italy take part in the three-day event. Madini said the conference will tackle a number of important researches in the field of psychiatric diseases, drugs and needs of the crippled in addition to psychiatric-related laws and regulations. For his part, Prince Juluwe conveyed to the participants and attendees the greetings of the Saudi leadership, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He cast light on the efforts exerted by the Saudi government for establishing and developing psychiatric health sector in Saudi universities and hospitals.
