A session of talks was held between the Omani Ministry of Higher Education and a delegation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Comoros Islands, here today. The session was co-chaired by Dr. Rawiyah bint Saud al Busaidiyah, Omani Minister of Higher Education and Dr. Fouad Mohadji, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Comoros Islands. At the beginning of the session, Dr. Al Busaidiyah highlighted the cultural, social and economic frameworks that support the constructive cooperation between the Sultanate and Comoros Islands, which affirm the integration and contact of cultural and educational joint relations between the two sides. She also pointed to the wide and rich potentials that can promote such cooperation between the two countries whether in the scientific research or organizing scientific events, such as, conferences and seminars, as well as, activating the academic exchange between them. On the other hand, Dr. Fouad Mohadji, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Comoros Islands reviewed the higher education in the Comoros Islands. He pointed out that there is only one governmental university established in 2003 that can serve 1000 students every year. He also added that there is a project to enable all residents across the islands to speak Arabic within the coming five-year period, the possibility for the Sultanate to contribute in this project by the utilization of the human cadres in achieving the project. He appreciated the Sultanate's trends in activating the academic cooperation between the academic institutions and academicians in the Sultanate and the Comoros Islands, which will support the higher education and scientific research sectors in his country. He also pointed to the possibility of joining a number of students in the higher education and medical programmes, according to a press statement circulated today in Muscat.
