A 6-magnitude quake struck Bengkulu at 00:06 (West Indonesia Time), waking people while still deeply asleep, but there had been no reports on fatalities. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said on Saturday the tremor was located 3.76 degrees southern latitude, and 10181 degrees eastern longitude. The epicenter of the quake was located 36 km southwest of North Bengkulu at a depth of 28 km, but did not trigger a tsunami, ANTARA quoted BMKG as saying. Bengkulu was struck twice by a major quake, namely in 2000 with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale, and in 2007 with a magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale, thousands of houses collapsed, and material loss reached hundreds of millions of rupiah.
