An earthquake measuring 5.7 on Richter scale jolted Bengkulu province at 5.47 on Sunday evening but there was no immediate report of a tsunami, casualty or material damage. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 4.62 degrees southern latitude and 101.17 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 16 km under the sea level, or around 152 kilometers southwest of Bengkulu city. Bengkulu province is prone to earthquakes and was jolted by a magnitude 7.3 earthquake in 2000 and more powerful one measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale in September 2007, ANTARA reported. Indonesia is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire", an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
