More than 200 people died of encephalitis in the eastern part of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh so far this year, the Press Trust of India reported on Saturday. Five persons died in the past two days of encephalitis in Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh, taking the death toll of the viral disease in the state's eastern part to 211 this year, the report said. Sixteen new patients were admitted to hospital Saturday while 165 patients are presently undergoing treatment, according to Xinhua. Encephalitis is an acute inflammation of the brain.
