Chinese authorities said four people died in flooding that has forced the evacuation of 64,000 residents along the swollen Yalu River bordering North Korea. Flooding also left one person missing, caused 230 houses to collapse and cut transportation, communications and power supplies in northeast China's Liaoning Province, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Sunday. Dandong City officials said water was gushing into riverside buildings as workers piled sand bags to try to stop the torrents. A ministry of transport helicopter rescued 29 villagers who were among 80 stranded in Dongdianzi Village, in Kuandian County, about 60 miles northeast of Dandong, UPI quoted officials as saying. Xinhua said rescuers were trying to reach nearly 1,200 people stranded in Kuandian County, where floodwaters inundated 40 villages. A flash flood in the county swept away houses, killing a couple in their 70s and a mother and son, authorities said. Nearby, authorities were searching for a 60-year-old man missing after his house collapsed in a landslide triggered by torrential rains that began Thursday and lasted until Saturday afternoon.
