At least 22 people were killed when the truck they were travelling in plunged into a gorge in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, a news report said. The vehicle left the road near Mandi town, around 150 kilometres north-west of state capital Shimla, local police were quoted as saying by IANS news agency. The total number of passengers was not ascertained as rescue workers have not yet reached the spot, police official Hera Singh added. About 120,000 people are killed annually in road accidents, dpa quoted government data as saying.
