A 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Ecuador Thursday, the US Geological Survey reported, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. The earthquake occurred at 0654 (1154 GMT) at a depth of 189 kilometres, with an epicentre about 171 kilometres southeast of capital Quito, dpa cited the USGS as saying. Ecuador's Geophysical Institute said there were no reports of damage and that there were three aftershocks in a 40-second period.
