Chaired by Qatar's Prime and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani, the Arab Peace Initiative Committee concluded its meeting at the Arab League in Cairo today. Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation to the meeting. In a joint press conference following the meeting, Al Thani and Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the Arab League, briefed journalists on the outcome of the meeting, with Al Thani disclosing that the Arab side agreed to go to direct conditioned negotiations with Israel. He explained that the Arab requirements were included in a message to U.S. President Barack Obama, also requesting American written guarantees. For his part, Amr Moussa said the Arab side's conditions include the stoppage of settlements, stoppage of Judaization of Al-Quds, the direct negotiations should be final and tackle the final situation issues, in addition to ending Gaza siege, putting a timetable for these negotiations, and getting a U.S. guarantee and Israeli assurances.
