The owner of a gold jewelry shop was killed by a group of armed robbers in the city of Waset, Iraqi police said on Thursday, according to dpa. The robbers attacked the store in the al-Aziziya area of Waset, 170 kilometres south-east of Baghdad, moments after it opened on Thursday morning. The robbers killed the owner of the shop and stole large quantities of gold jewelry before escaping. Police are searching the area for the robbers. Iraq has seen widespread robberies of gold shops over recent months, resulting in several deaths and the theft of large amounts of gold.
