The United Nations World Food Program expressed today its gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for offering a grant worth $24 million of food assistance to poor people in Pakistan. In a press release, WFP Executive Manager Joset Sheran said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has proved to be a reliable partner in the process of achieving the program's mission to provide food for starving people in the world. He quoted the program's Manager for External Relations Ramiro Lopez De Silva as saying that the grant would enable the program to upgrade its capability to meet the needs of the starving people in Pakistan and assist the WFP to provide food for 1.2 million people in the struggle-stricken areas in Pakistan for at least two months. He added that the grant would also enable the program to complete building a humanitarian logistic base near Peshawar that would become one of the biggest storage facilities of the WFP and the most advanced in the world.
