The official spokesman of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced today that security forces have commenced numerous operations during the last two months, which led to the arrest of (125) suspects who were taking parts in smuggling and trading pure heroin, hashish and amphetamine tablets; (76) of the suspects are Saudis, 16 Yemenis, 9 Pakistanis, 4 Syrians, 4 Iraqis, 3 Sudanese, 3 Egyptians, 3 Turks, 2 Omanis, a Kuwaiti, a Somali, an Eritrean, an Ethiopian and a Bengali. The MOI spokesman added that these operations were carried out in many provinces throughout the Kingdom as follows. Firstly, Based on pre-emptive efforts, security forces have arrested a total of 43 suspects; 22 Saudis, 11 Yemenis, 3 Turks, 2 Omanis, 2 Syrians, a Somali, a Bengali and an Eritrean. The arrest took place during swapping narcotics smuggled into the Kingdom by suspects after being placed under scrutiny. The contraband drugs were composed of 3,557,251 amphetamine tablets and 1567.690 kgms of hashish, and it included the following: - 1,080,000 amphetamine tablets hidden in a heavy equipment. - 1,366,000 amphetamine tablets hidden in wooden floor cavities. - 712,000 amphetamine tablets found in hidden spots in a motor vehicle's body. - 186,150 amphetamine tablets found in imported Basalt Stones. - An attempt to smuggle 502 kgms of hashish. Secondly, within the context of an on-going efforts to prevent smuggling across sea and land borders of the Kingdom, security forces aborted attempts to smuggle 4,306,600 kgms of hashish by intruders or by using trained animals. 6 suspects, 4 Iraqis, a Saudi and a Sudanese , were arrested in the attempt. Thirdly: Due to the follow up of drug dealing inside the Kingdom in a variety of security operations in which security forces encountered 8 incidents including armed resistance that resulted in non-fatal injuries of a policeman and 6 drug smugglers. Security forces arrested 59 suspects as an outcome of the operation: 41 Saudis, 9 Pakistanis, 5 Yemenis, 2 Sudanese, an Egyptian and an Ethiopian after being arrested carrying and dealing narcotic drugs inside the Kingdom. Seized drugs are as follow: - 176,580 amphetamine tablets. - 677,745 kgms Hashish. - 2.440 kgms pure Heroin. - A contraption used as a lab to manufacture amphetamine tablets spotted and accessories. Fourthly: In coordination with the Customs Officers 17 suspects were arrested; 12 Saudis, 2 Syrians, 2 Egyptians and a Kuwaiti on counts of engagement in smuggling and reception of 2,758,433 amphetamine tablets. This capture ensured efforts manifested by Saudi customs with security forces.
