Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri met with Jordan's King Abdullah II at the Red Sea resort of Aqaba today for consultations ahead of the premier's visit to the United States, dpa quoted a royal court statement as saying. The meeting, which tackled latest developments in the region, took place for "coordinating attitudes" prior to Hariri' trip to Washington, the statement said. The two Arab leaders discussed, in particular, US-brokered indirect peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel, which could create an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's support for Lebanon to help it confront "challenges" and preserve the country's security and stability, the royal court statement said. Hariri is due to leave to Washington on Sunday for his first visit to the United States and talks with President Barack Obama amid fears of renewed fighting between Lebanon and Israel.
