A strike by drivers on Mumbai's suburban railway network that stranded more than 6 million commuters in India's financial hub was called off today, dpa quoted news reports as saying. The drivers, who were demanding higher wages and allowances, ended the strike after talks with Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil, PTI news agency reported. Patil told reporters the government would consider the demands. He also said 20 drivers dismissed for refusing to work would be reinstated. Services were expected to be restored by late evening, PTI reported. The labour dispute had spilled over into parliament, which adjourned several times amid heated arguments between opposition and ruling alliance members. -- SPA
