The Committee of Research and Development, an affiliate of the International Desalination Association (IDA) held recently its second meeting in Khobar. During its deliberations, the Committee underlined the importance of setting up a road map and an integrated international vision on the future of technologies of water desalination in coordination with the IDA and other specialized research centers. The committee also called for formulating an 8-year strategy for lessening energy usage in the production of the desalinated water. Meanwhile, Dr Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, the Deputy Governor of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), said the meeting tackled issues pertaining to the development of technology of water desalination and other related topics. It is worth mentioning that the Boston-based IDA comprises more than 2,300 members who represent 58 countries from various parts of the world, and it has been playing a significant role as regards development of water desalination industry.
