Four people drowned Friday night after a car plummeted off a bridge into a river in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local authorities said Saturday. The black Chevron sedan plunged into the river at around 7:30 p.m. in Xinhe County, Aksu Prefecture. All the bodies and the vehicle were retrieved by 8:50 p.m.. The driver was a local villager. The passengers were yet to be identified, Xinhua quoted a prefecture official as saying. The police were investigating the case, he added.
