Germany is to host an international climate conference early May, aimed at kick-starting stalled negotiations ahead of a UN summit in Mexico later this year, dpa quoted Environment Minister Norbert Roettgen as announcing today. Environment ministers from 45 states will be invited to Bonn for informal trust-building talks, to improve the chances of reaching a climate deal, Roettgen said. He stressed that the aim was not to reach any resolutions. Official UN Climate Change talks resume in December, in the Mexican city of Cancun, after very limited progress was made at last year's Copenhagen summit. Chancellor Angela Merkel is to speak at the opening of the so-called Petersberg Climate Dialogue, on May 2-4, which is to be jointly led by Mexico and Germany. Roettgen said the invited states represented the different regions of the world. Several UN-led working group meetings have been scheduled to take place before and after the May talks.
