The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned the incursion of Israeli police forces into the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque, during which worshipers were attacked. In a statement carried yesterday by OIC's web-site, Ihsanoglu described this act as an infringement of Muslims holy sites, a flagrant affront to international law and a blatant violation of freedom of worship capable of plunging the region into a religious war. The Secretary General appealed to the international community, particularly the Quartet to heed the danger of Israeli transgression on the present and future of the region. He also called for effective action at all levels to stop the Israeli hostilities and compel Israel to respect international law.
