A gunfight between leftist rebels and the military in the southern Philippines left a Filipino soldier dead and another injured, a military official said. Fighting erupted at the encampment of the New People's Army in the village of Baylo in the Monkayo township of Compostella Valley, said regional military spokesman Randolph Cabangbang. The fighting went on for two hours before troops drove the rebels out of their encampment, UPI reported. "We believed the rebels also suffered fatalities. They abandoned their camp after sensing they are already outnumbered," Cabangbang said.
