Authorities in south China's Shenzhen City confirmed Wednesday that seven workers were injured in a liquid detergent explosion at a local electronic plant. Two of the injured were said to be in critical conditions. A dozen workers were using a kind of cleansing liquid, consisting primarily sulfuric acid, to clean an ultrasonic machine Tuesday morning at Xianda electronics factory based in Nanshan District of Shenzhen, but the cleansing liquid exploded all of a sudden and caused a fire at 10:30 a.m., Xinhua quoted the district's public security bureau as saying in a statement. Fire fighters were alerted, and the fire was put out soon. The fire fighters also saved seven workers with burns. The injured were sent to hospital immediately. All of the injured remained hospitalized. An official with Nanshan District Department of Work Safety said Wednesday that the accident was caused because the liquid detergent the workers were using in cleansing operation suddenly dilated and exploded, producing gases of high temperature, plus thick smoke. Apart from burns, the injured also inhaled soot. The accident was under further investigation.
