Two trains collided here today at the Dammam Terminus of the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO), leading to stranding of eight wagons and damaging at the fronts of the two trains. An official source at the SRO said the Freight Train comprising a locomotive and 56 wagons bound to Riyadh from Dammam collided with the train which was shunting at the railway terminus at 1:45 am. The collision caused injuries to an assistant, a supervisor and a security person at the Terminus in addition to the injury of the driver of the workshop train. The injured persons were rushed to a hospital and the driver of the shunting train remained under medical observation. The official source said the Civil Defense and Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) as well as maintenance teams and railway police rushed to the site of the incident. Meanwhile, maintenance teams are engaged in moving the stranded wagons. The incident did not affect the movement of the passenger-trains which resumed today their journeys normally. --SPA
