Dr. Abdullah Al Othman, The Rector of King Saud University who inaugurated today the Fifth Annual General Surgery Conference pointed out that KSU has completed the first phase of fund-raising project for university endowments and commenced the second phase of the receipt of contributions, adding that the university succeeded in introducing a new philosophy of charitable work in the Kingdom. The endowment profits will be allocated for research treatment of chronic diseases such as kidney disease, diabetes and other diseases which affect human life. Al Othman stressed in the opening session on the support of Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh region, the President of the Supreme Committee for the university endowment which has enabled the fund-raising to exceed more than one billion Riyals. He indicated that KSU Faculty of Medicine will be the first beneficiary of the project. The four-day conference is a gathering of the eminent in the field examining the significant changes in surgical practice. This meeting offers the distinct advantage of the ability of one to one discussion with the expert, which is not always possible in international conventions.
