Tremors damaged the south pier in the Haitian capital on Wednesday, reducing the number of containers that can be unloaded there, U.S. Air Force General Douglas Fraser said Thursday. Fraser heads U.S. Southern Command, based in Miami, Florida, and is directing the military relief effort in Haiti following the massive January 12 earthquake. Fraser said there are hundreds of camps for displaced people in the Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas following the earthquake. He told a news conference that between 800,000 and 1 million Haitians lost their homes. The U.N. World Food Program (WFP) will expand its distribution points in Port-au-Prince from 12 to 15 on Friday, Fraser said.
