Consumer confidence in European Union edged higher in January, a key survey released today said, according to dpa. The European Commission's closely watched consumer confidence indicator for the 27-member EU rose from minus 14.3 in December to minus 13.3 this month. The commission published the survey as a preliminary estimate for the first time ahead of the normal release of the indicator at the end of the month. But while the survey showed the mood among consumers in the broader EU improving this month, it remained almost unchanged in the 16-member eurozone. The eurozone indicator came in at minus 15.8 in January compared with minus 16.1 in December.
