Kuwait will host a GCC coordinative environmental meeting on January 25 to discuss a set of environmental issues that concern the member states of The Gulf Cooperation Council. The two-day meeting will be held at the level of under secretaries of the GCC ministries of environment, Deputy Director General of the Environment Public Authority Ali Haidar told KUNA. The meeting will focus on the issues of climate change, Gulf sea environment, air pollution and training and coordinative programs, as well as exchange of experience among the GCC member states, he said. Prospective recommendations to be produced by the gathering are to be sent to the upcoming Gulf environmental meeting due in Kuwait in May, Haidar added. The GCC countries are seeking in earnest to boost public environmental awareness of different societal groups and to buttress their capabilities for the sake of sustainable development in diverse fields, he said. The Kuwaiti official extolled GCC cooperation and coordination with international environmental organizations for reducing gas emissions.
