A Philippine man was recovered alive Saturday by the Syrian navy near the northern Syrian coast, two days after his ship sank offshore from the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli, dpa reported. "Wilson Vincent from the Philippines was found near Tartous," Tripoli port authority chief Ahmad Tamer said. He said the man was in "stable" condition. The recovery of the man came after rescuers gave little hope of finding any further survivors after a two-day search amid bad weather conditions for crew members and passengers from the Danny F II, a cargo ship which went down in a storm with some 83 people on board. Meanwhile, Lebanese and United Nations ships continued their search for more survivors near Tripoli. UN sources said at least 30 people were still missing. "We are continuing our efforts, but we think chances of finding survivors after two days are very low," an army source told dpa. "We cannot say what to expect, but we will continue the search for the day hoping to find more survivors," UN spokesman Andrea Tenenti told dpa. According to a Lebanese army source so far 46 survivors and 11 bodies had been recovered. A statement from the Lebanese Red Cross said that most of the survivors were being treated in hospital for "exhaustion, broken bones and concussions." --SPA
