The GCC Inter-Connection Grid Project, which was launched by the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council earlier Monday is the first of a series of joint projects, said Kuwait"s Oil and Information Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. In a statement to Kuwait"s news agency "KUNA" after the launch of the project, he said that this was an achievement "that we have long awaited and wished for," expecting that the project would be of benefit to all. "Today, we have seen a seed of utility launched from Kuwait," aimed at benefiting from the electricity surplus in the six member states in the case of any emergency. He hoped that the monetary union would be launched soon. The GCC is made up of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.
