A young man was killed and three people injured when a student opened fire with a pistol during a university class on Thursday in the southern Hungarian town of Pécs, local media reported, according to dpa. A spokesman for the university, Zoltan Gyorffy, said the gunman, a first-year pharmacy student, fled after the shooting and was caught by police shortly afterwards in a nearby university clinic, the news website index.hu reported. Witnesses said the 23-year-old male student had appeared agitated during a practical class before pulling out a pistol and opening fire just before noon, the daily Nepszabadsag reported on its website. One classmate died from his wounds. Two other students and a cleaning woman are being treated in hospital for serious injuries received during the shooting, Gyorffy said. One is in critical condition. The gunman is reportedly being interviewed by psychologists and the police. At present the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
