A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit off the western coast of Canada on Tuesday, but did not trigger a tsunami alert, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said. There were no immediate reports of damage. The earthquake was centered 261 kilometers southwest of Prince Rupert, in the province of British Colombia, at a depth of 10 kilometers, near the Queen Charlotte Islands, an area of frequent earthquakes, the USGS said. The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said the earthquake was not expected to cause a tsunami on the coast of Canada or the United States, and no alerts or warnings were posted.
