Kuwait"s Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved a request by an Iraqi airline company to operate regular flights to Kuwait from Baghdad international airport and Najaf (south Iraq), DGCA Head Fawaz Al-Farah said on Monday. The Iraqi company requested to operate two flights a week from Baghdad and two others from Najaf to Kuwait, Farah said in statements to Kuwait News Agency "KUNA". Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Al-Jazeera Airways requested to operate 20 flights a week to Iraq covering Baghdad, Najaf and Irbil, said Farah, noting that the DGCA is awaiting approval of the Kuwaiti request. There are a number of foreign private chartered flights operating at present between Kuwait and Iraqi airports, Farah said, noting that demand on air transport between the two countries is growing. Underlining significance of a direct route between Kuwait and Iraq, he said that Kuwait could play a pivotal role in the reconstruction process in Iraq at this stage.
